Primer/Elementarz

Karolina Karlic was born in the Polish city of Wrocław but grew up in Michigan. In Primer/Elementarz she traces both her roots and the reach of the American auto industry to eastern Europe. “If there’s underlying drama in this chronicle, it’s how these two worlds connect and disconnect,” Karlic says. The book is in part a homage to her engineer father and “his lifelong effort to sustain both his family and his own identity”, as well as a testament to other migrants from either abroad or the Deep South drawn by the promise of jobs in industry and the American Dream.

Primer/Elementarz is available from the artist’s website.
