Time and the city: a photographer’s journey to Kaliningrad in search of things past

Ever since childhood German-born photographer Gulliver Theis has heard stories of his family's escape from the German-held territory of Köningsberg during the Second World War. Captured by the Soviet Union in the war and renamed Kaliningrad, the small exclave has remained in Russian hands ever since. Theis made a personal trip to Kaliningrad to explore the impact of 70 years of Russian control on the city. This is his portfolio from a city suspended outside time.
