Childhood’s end: portraits of a generation coming of age

Making the transition from childhood to adulthood is a time fraught with difficulty, a time of discovery, of newfound freedom and awkwardness. Documentary photographer Danila Tkachenko’s Transition Age is a series of portraits of Russian teenagers interspersed with images of decaying playgrounds and colourful graffiti, reminiscent of childhood scrawlings. The project is one of several in which Tkachenko, who won a 2014 World Press Photo award, explores themes around identity and the self.
