Hungarian short secures Oscar nomination

26 January 2017

Hungarian director Kristóf Deák’s short film Sing (Mindenki) is among this year’s nominees for the Academy Award for Best Live-Action Short Film.

Set in Budapest in 1991, Sing follows a young girl who joins a choir at her new school, before discovering a dark secret about the choir leader.

The last time a Hungarian film was nominated in this category was in 1963, when István Szabó‘s Concert secured a nomination.

Joining Sing in the list of nominees for Best Live-Action Short Film are Timecode (Spain), Silent Nights (Denmark), Enemies Within (France), and La Femme et le TGV (Switzerland).

The 2017 Academy Awards are set to take place on 26 February in Hollywood.
