Teodor Currentzis and Perm orchestra in London next week

6 January 2017

On Saturday 14 January, the Russian city of Perm’s MusicAeterna orchestra will perform Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet in London, under the direction of their renowned conductor and artistic director, Teodor Currentzis.

The performance, which is taking place in aid of the Gift of Life charity, will also see British actor Ralph Fiennes and Russian actresses Chulpan Khamatova and Dina Korzun, the founders of Gift of Life’s Podari Zhizn sister charity, read extracts from a selection of Shakespeare plays.

Charismatic conductor Currentzis is known for transcending boundaries between musical genres and his unorthodox approach to classical music. Born in Athens in 1972, Currentzis began studying at the St Petersburg State Conservatory at the age of 22 and formed the MusicAeterna ensemble in 2004. Since February 2011, Currentzis has been artistic director of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre, where MusicAeterna are now resident.

Currentzis and MusicAeterna will perform at 7.30pm on 14 January at Royal Festival Hall. For more information please click here.
