In winter: singer Katie Melua explores her Georgian roots

3 January 2017

Join Georgian-British singer and songwriter Katie Melua as she travels to Tbilisi to record her new album.

Melua was born in the Georgian city of Kutaisi, moving to the UK at the age of eight. For her latest album In Winter, the singer travelled back to Georgia to work with the Gori Women’s Choir.

“Going home and making music from home was something I’d always dreamed of. That dream finally came to fruition when I discovered the Gori Women’s Choir,” Melua said in an interview with the BBC.

In Winter sees Melua not only explore her links to Georgia, but also music from the wider New East, with the album featuring both Ukrainian and Romanian carols.
