Step inside St Petersburg’s historic apartments – a world of fading grandeur.

The Stary Fond project aims to capture the apartments’ former glory, that can still be glimpsed today – from vibrant tiled floors, to elaborate plaster ceilings and ornate window panes. Formerly huge private apartments, many were transformed into communal apartments (kommunalki) during the Soviet era and remain communal today.
