Licence partly restored to European University at St Petersburg

The European University at St Petersburg (EUSP) has got its licence back after having it revoked by Russian education watchdog Rosobrnadzor last week, at least for now.

A Moscow court suspended an order given by Rosobrnadzor on Friday, which stripped the prestigious EUSP of its licence and forced the institution to halt all activity. The university can now partly resume its operations until the official challenge to Rosobrnadzor’s decision in court.

“This is the first successful step in finding a legal solution, albeit temporary, but consistent with the instruction of the President of the Government and enabling the European University at St Petersburg to continue educational activities,” reads a statement from the University.

Full teaching operations can, however, only be restored by special order by Rosobrnadzor, and students have already received notice of their transfer to other universities. In the meantime, the academic research work of the University is continuing normally.
