National Geographic has listed Georgia’s David Gareja caves and Croatia’s Plitviče Lakes National Park among the world’s most wild and beautiful places.

Croatia’s most popular tourist attraction, Plitviče Lakes National Park lies in central Croatia and was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979. It is world famous for its 16 cascading lakes, connected by a series of waterfalls, and its stunning woodland, which boasts a rich variety of flora and fauna.

One of Georgia’s most significant historic sites, David Gareja is an ancient monastery complex set in the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia, on the half-desert slopes of Mount Gareja. The remarkable complex features diverse parts of the monasteries, including hundreds of cells, churches and living quarters, hollowed out of the rock face.

Also among the locations named were Molokai in Hawaii, Canada’s Jasper National Park, the Engadine Valley in Switzerland and Namibia’s Skeleton Coast.
