The New Budapest Gallery hosting The Prophets’ Parade, an exhibition by neo-avant-garde art group Łódź Kaliska, presenting an irreverent view on the theme of collective mythmaking.

The works on view at The Prophets’ Parade Stefan and Mayonnaise, Mickiewicz, Balladyna Selfie, Janina Kochanowska and The Standing Charge — question the constant reference to Romantic tradition in Polish myth-making, examining the way in which these characters and symbols can become a tool of manipulation when placed in a contemporary context.

Made up of artists Marek Janiak, Andrzej Wielogórski, Andrzej Świetlik and Adam Rzepecki, Łódź Kaliska works across photography, experimental film and performance art. Their artistic practice draws on Dadaist traditions and points to Surrealist anarchism. They became known in the international sphere for their criticism of the socialist regime in Poland in the 1980s.

The Prophets’ Parade will be on show at the New Budapest Gallery until 8 January 2017. More information can be found here.
