Russian politician turns to police over Ricky Martin footage

5 October 2016

Seeking inspiration for some new moves? Look no further than councilman Konstantin Fedotov from the Russian city of Orlov, who is hoping to see journalists prosecuted for sharing a video of him dancing in spectacular fashion to Ricky Martin’s Livin’ La Vida Loca.

Mr Fedotov filed a police report against local journalists from the Orlov News and OrelGrad media outlets, who reported on an office party attended by Mr Fedotov. He argues that the video, which was uploaded on 12 September, amounts to a violation of privacy.

OrelGrad has already issued a response to Fedotov’s claims, claiming that it was not behind the release of the dance footage on YouTube, and that there’s nothing scandalous or slanderous about the video.

“In the controversial video, everyone present [at the party] is cheerful, happy [...] Our editorial office could hardly conclude that the ‘dissemination of this video material was carried out against the will’ of these happy characters,” read the statement, rejecting claims made by Mr Fedotov.

We only wish our own office parties were quite as lively.
