Croatian designer Nataša Njegovanović takes us to the farmyard

12 September 2016

Check out the Avila collection by Croatian designer Nataša Njegovanović — a set of playful furniture that can also serve as toys, inspired by farm animals.

The series features a desk, stool, push-bike and storage chest, each of which gently references the figure of a farmyard animal.

Avila responds to the contemporary tendency for instant children’s entertainment, which does not privilege imaginative engagement with toys but rather spoon-feeds entertainment. The collection instead prompts an imaginative response from children, encouraging them to create their own games and stories.

Made from local materials such as Slavonia oak, Avila is strongly influenced by the Croatian village where it was created, promoting the region’s traditions and prevalent simple aesthetic.
