Uber has joined the Romanian government’s fundraising campaign to buy back Constantin Brâncuși’s famous Cuminţenia Pământului (Wisdom of the Earth) sculpture, which is currently on display at Bucharest’s Museum of the National Bank of Romania (BNR Museum).

Until 16 September, anyone riding with Uber to the BNR Museum will play a part in the fundraising initiative – the company will donate half of the price paid for the journey to the Ministry of Culture. All you need to do is call a car via the Uber app and set the BNR Museum as the destination.

Beyond this scheme, Uber is also actively encouraging customers to donate — the company has released a statement inviting clients to give €2 ($2.26) by sending a text message to 8833, with the message “Brancuși e al meu” (Brancuși is mine).

“‘Brâncuși is mine’ is much more than a fundraising campaign, it’s an opportunity for us to show that we are a community sharing the same values. There are over 100,000 riders and partner drivers on the Uber platform — 100,000 possible donations which, only together, can make a difference, ” said Nicoleta Schroeder, the general manager of Uber Romania.

The Romanian Government has agreed to pay €11 million ($12.45 million) for the sculpture, and has pledged €5 million ($5.7 million) from the state budget. The Ministry of Culture needs to raise the remaining EUR 6 million by the end of September through donations. So far, it has raised just over €0.5 million ($570,000).
