Scene from Man with a Movie Camera (1929, dir. Dziga Vertov)

18 July 2016

Russia’s first International Experimental Film Festival will take place from 22 – 24 July in Moscow.

Held at the Trekhgorka House of Culture, set on the site of the Trekhgornaya Factory, one of the oldest textile factories in Russia, the festival will welcome films from around the world to compete in two categories: Experimental and Documentary. In addition to the competition programme, the festival will host the first Russian screenings of a selection of short films provided by the British Film Institute, together with Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network. The special “Russian Focus” section will give festival-goers the chance to explore the best of Russian experimental cinema.

An array of events will take place around the screenings, including lectures, theatrical performances, as well as musical and discussion events. Of particular note will be a screening of Man with a Movie Camera (1929) by Dziga Vertov, considered a founding father of experimental cinema, with an original soundtrack by Russian electronic composer and producer OID.
