Moscow-based V-A-C Foundation opens international art residency

6 July 2016

Moscow’s V-A-C Foundation, dedicated to the development of Russian contemporary art, has launched an international art residency.

The residency forms part of its “Expanding Space. Artistic Practice in the Urban Environment” programme, which began with an exhibition of the same name in 2015.

Each year the Foundation, in cooperation with a foreign institution, will invite artists to study the urban environment and create artworks in Moscow’s public spaces and give Russian artists the opportunity to complete traineeships at partner institutions.

The Kadist Fund, an interdisciplinary contemporary arts organisation based in Paris, has helped to develop the first year of the programme. Participants for the first year include art groups Futurefarmers and Laboratory of Urban Fauna. Both organisations are particularly interested in the environment, ecology and the socio-political challenges arising from globalisation.
