Pro-Kremlin pundit recites lewd limerick about Turkish president live on air

Russian TV anchor Dmitry Kiselyov read out a crude poem by ex-London mayor Boris Johnson live on his News of the Week show on Sunday evening.

The lewd limerick, which won a competition organised by Britain’s Spectator magazine, involves Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan making love to a goat. The competition was organised in response to the German government’s decision, under Turkish pressure, to prosecute satirist Jan Böhmermann for writing his own rude poem addressed to Erdoğan.

Kiselyov, who is known for his outspoken pro-Kremlin views, introduced Johnson as “an eccentric in his psychological makeup. Someone who isn’t afraid to make fun of the illogical behavior of European Union leaders and the nonsensical decisions they make for the UK.”

Having read out a Russian translation of the poem, Kiselyov speculated that the goat featured in the poem was in fact a reference to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
