The CinemaTastes festival will open in Moscow later this month, celebrating the food featured in the most famous Russian and Soviet films.

Around 100 restaurants are due to take part in the festival, which will see them preparing dishes from Russian and Soviet film favourites. Among those taking part will be Tavern (Shinok) restaurant, who will whip up mincemeat, as featured in the film adaptation of The Twelve Chairs (1971, dir. Leonid Gaidai), while Mushrooms will prepare dishes using fly agaric mushrooms, as seen in Generation P (2011, dir. Victor Ginzburg).

Also featuring on the menu will be dishes from the films The Irony of Fate (1976, dir. Eldar Ryazanov), Kidnapping, Caucasian Style (1967, dir. Leonid Gaidai) and The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed (1979, dir. Stanislav Govorukhin).

The CinemaTastes festival will take place from 23 May — 5 June at restaurants around Moscow. The festival will also be held in St Petersburg from 23 May — 5 June and Yekaterinburg from 21 November — 4 December. The festival forms part of a wider programme marking “The Year of Cinema” in Russia.
