Croatian startup hopes to found world’s first mobile hostel

23 March 2016

Nearby Hostel, a startup from Croatia, has launched a crowdfunding campaign in an attempt to establish the world’s first mobile hostel.

The Nearby Hostel team, made up of Ivan Malić, Mihovil Grgurić, Tin Vidović and Vedrana Knez, seek to provide hostel-style accommodation that can be transported between festivals. Their initiative, which has been under way for the last ten months, came about as a response to the high accommodation prices that often result from an increase in demand during events such as music festivals.

Designed as a fully mobile accommodation solution, each Nearby Hostel will encompass nine rooms and 26 beds. In addition, the accommodation will include washroom facilities, featuring “smart showers”, which use 70% less water than a normal shower. Each room will be equipped with comfortable beds, a TV, lockers, a fridge and power outlets, and guests will be able to make use of the hostel’s Wi-Fi. Security at Nearby Hostel also takes on a high-tech twist, as customers will use their smartphones to unlock their room doors.

“Our mission is simple – we want to make festival accommodation close, comfortable and affordable, so you can be free to party and enjoy festivals,” said the Nearby Hostel team in a statement.

Nearby Hostel have launched a crowdfunding campaign through Indigogo to help launch the business. The first round of fundraising will be used to help build the prototype of the mobile hostel.
