UnCapitals Barents Region creative camp launches open call

UnCapitals have released an open call for participants from the Barents Region to apply for their three-day creative camp taking place in Karelia in April.

The aim of UnCapitals is to define and strengthen the cultural identity of the Barents Region, as well as to unify its residents and provoke a dialogue between the capital cities and remote areas.

Applications are sought from residents of Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Northwest Russia, Norway, Sweden and the Åland Islands aged 18 — 30.

UnCapitals takes as its theme the decentralisation of culture, based on the movement of culture from capitals to more remote towns.

The project is looking for participants to join each of the camp’s three groups: Music and Sound (electronic and experimental producers, instrumentalists, vocalists, songwriters), Online Platforms (programmers (coders), web designers, online journalists, bloggers, web artists) and Mural Art (street artists, mural artists, graphic artists, painters).

Applications are sought from residents of Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Northwest Russia, Norway, Sweden and the Åland Islands aged 18 — 30. Visa, travel, accommodation and food costs are covered by the project.

The camp will take place this year in Olonets, the oldest documented settlement in Karelia, from 28 — 30 April.
