The Russian Department of Transport and the Moscow metro has launched a new competition, “Music in the metro”, giving talented musicians the chance to perform in their own designated spots within the metro system.

From today, artists who want to perform in the metro can submit an online application. The best entrants will be selected from among the first 400 applications and invited to audition before a celebrity jury, which will include the winners of popular television show The Voice, members of the bands Chelsea and Gorky Park, as well as other well known performers. The jury will select 200 talented acts to receive special permission to perform in the metro.

The designated performance spots will be marked with bright stickers and will be located at such busy stations as Arbat, Kitay-gorod, Kurskaya and Mayakovskaya. It is anticipated that the performances will begin in May this year and will take place from 10am — 5pm and 8pm — 10pm.
