American actor and director Steven Seagal has promised to create a Serbian version of Hollywood, having received Serbian citizenship earlier this week.

According to the Sputnik news agency, Mr Seagal requested Serbian citizenship because of his plans to develop the country’s film industry.

“I can do a lot here [...] I really want to bring Hollywood to Serbia. I want to bring the whole film community here. I want to build great, sort of a Hollywood-film infrastructure here,” Mr Seagal told Sputnik, noting that Serbia has a wide variety of different landscapes that would allow filmmakers to shoot any type of scene in the country.

In addition, Mr Seagal voiced plans to develop the Japanese martial art of aikido in Serbia and restore in Belgrade a Buddhist temple, built in the 1920s by Kalmyks who fled Russia during the Civil War.
