Belarus and Turkmenistan are set to strengthen their cultural ties, according to First Deputy Culture Minister of Belarus, Irina Driga.

Ms Driga spoke about furthering the cooperation between the two countries with her Turkmen counterpart, Bakhargul Abdiyeva, during the Days of Belarusian Culture festival in Turkmenistan, which is taking place this week.

On the agenda was the organisation of future Days of Culture festivals, and the signing of cooperation agreements between cultural institutions. In addition, Ms Driga and Ms Abdiyeva discussed potential programmes of study for Turkmen teachers and students at art colleges and universities in Belarus and the possibility of working together to facilitate exchanges between circus performers. The pair also spoke about organising the Days of Belarusian Cinema festival in Turkmenistan and, in turn, screenings of Turkmen films in Belarus.

Turkmenistan is hosting the Days of Belarusian Culture from 6 – 12 December, featuring performances by Belarusian musicians and dancers, Belarusian craft workshops, poetry readings, film screenings and discussions.
