Slovenian artists donate works to Ljubljana charity sale in aid of refugees

More than 70 artists, designers and illustrators donated works to a charity sale in aid of refugees, held last night in the City Gallery of Ljubljana.

Individuals and studios – including Ada Hamza, Ajax Studio, Ajdin Bašić, Aljaž Vindiš, Ana Baraga, Damjan Ilić and Domen Fras – sold prints, monographs, posters, books and clothing for between 5€ and 50€ (between $5.40 and $54). All proceeds will go to the charity Slovenian Philanthropy in Aid of Refugees.

Several Ljubljana galleries and museums also donated merchandise to the sale, including the Museum of Architecture and Design, the Museum of Contemporary Slovenian History and the International Centre of Graphic Arts.

The Slovenian government recently announced that they are considering erecting a fence along their southern border with Croatia, after an estimated 110,000 refugees entered the country within two weeks as part of the ongoing crisis in southern Europe. Many refugees are entering Slovenia from Croatia as they move north towards Austria and Germany. “If necessary, we are ready to put up the fence immediately,” the nation’s Slovenian prime minister Miro Cerar is quoted as saying.
