An exhibition of works by the Russian photographer Evgenia Arbugaeva of the country’s far northern outskirts opens today in London’s Photographers’ Gallery.

The exhibition, entitled Arctic Stories, marks the award-winning photographer’s first solo show in the UK. Images will be displayed from two of Arbugaeva’s collections: Tiksi (2010), which documents life in her small Arctic hometown; and Weather Man (2014), an account of her stay with meteorologist Vyacheslav Korotki on the remote northern peninsula of Khodovarikha.

Evgenia Arbugaeva was born in Tiksi in the Yakutia Republic in northern Russia and graduated from the New York International Centre of Photography’s Documentary Photography and Photojournalism course in 2009. She has won the ICP Infinity Award and the Leica Oskar Barnack Award and featured in the New Yorker and National Geographic amongst others.

Arctic Stories runs until 16 January 2016.
