Zagreb becomes latest east European city to feature in popular Noir book series

Zagreb will follow in the footsteps of Moscow and St Petersburg next month with the publication of Zagreb Noir, a collection of short crime stories set in the Croatian capital published in translation by Akashic Books.

The book will mark east Europe’s third entry into the internationally popular Noir series. Each edition highlights the best in new crime writing from a particular city or region and is edited by a local literary figure. Zagreb Noir will be edited by publisher and novelist Ivan Sršen and feature 14 stories by Ivan Vidić, Josip Novakovich, Robert Perišić, Ružica Gašperov and Nora Verde, amongst others.

Sršen has described the anthology as a “great collection of unpredictable stories that will allow American readers into corners of our city that have real literary potential.”

The series began in 2004 with the publication of Brooklyn Noir, edited by Tim McLoughlin. There are now 75 books in the Noir series, with editions set in such diverse cities as Delhi, Istanbul and Havana, and a further 25 forthcoming.
