Moscow has been voted the world’s unfriendliest city by readers of Travel + Leisure.

The American travel magazine compiled a list of the world’s least friendly cities based on responses from nearly 200,000 readers, who were asked to rank 266 cities on a range of factors, including “the friendliness of their people”.

Survey participants found Muscovites to be unhelpful to tourists, and reported a general “aloofness” in the Russian capital.

While Moscow took first place, Russia’s second city St Petersburg was voted the world’s third least friendly city. Readers voted Moscow (Russia), Atlantic City (New Jersey, USA), St Petersburg (Russia), Marseille (France), Los Angeles (California, USA), New York (New York, USA), Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA), Baltimore (Maryland, USA), Las Vegas (Nevada, USA), and Cannes (France) as the top ten unfriendliest cities.
