The first baby to be named Krym (Crimea in Russian) has been born in Russia.

Krym Aleksandrovich was born in Yekaterinburg in central Russia.

Giving children patriotic names relating to historical events has a long history in Russia and was particularly popular during the Soviet period, with Oktyabrina (in celebration of the October Revolution) and Traktorina (in honour of industrialisation) being two examples of popular girls’ names.
