Alexander Sokurov to be guest of honour at Swiss film festival

Titan of Russian cinema Alexander Sokurov will be the guest of honour at next month’s Images and Words Festival. The event, which runs from 24 to 27 March, is a spinoff of the Locarno Film Festival and includes a mix of film and literary events in the Swiss lakeside town.
Two of Sokurov’s films, Faust and Russian Ark, will be screened at the festival. Faust won the Golden Lion for best film at the 2011 Venice Film Festival while Russian Ark received worldwide acclaim for its 99-minute single take in St Petersburg’s Hermitage Museum.
Sokurov will also participate in a workshop entitled Cinema Without Editing and a roundtable discussion on contemporary cinema and European cultural heritage.
