Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy has joined forces with Californian apparel brand Vans and US filmmaker Julian Klincewicz for a short film.

The collaboration takes the form of a lo-fi, VHS-inspired short, featuring the new Vans collection, which draws on the classic Sk8-Hi shoe.

The project represents Rubchinskiy’s continued collaboration with Vans. The designer has also previously worked with Klincewicz on backstage videos and suggested this most recent collaboration.

“I invited him to Moscow and St Petersburg to spend time with us. We spent around ten days here skating and filming. You can see Julian and Tolya (Vans Russia pro-rider) skating together in Russian cities. It was a really fun time,” Rubchinskiy explained.

Rubchinskiy’s vision for the project goes beyond selling shoes.

“We want to show good things which can connect people from different countries like Russia and the USA. I think skateboarding is one of those,” said the designer.

Rubchinskiy has recently released a new capsule collection, paying homage to cult artist Timur Novikov.
