Hungarian film in Official Competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival

Hungarian film Son of Saul from director László Nemes has been selected for the Official Competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, while films from Romania and Croatia have made it into the festival’s Competition and Certain Regard programme.

Son of Saul follows the story of a Hungarian prisoner working at a Nazi prisoner’s camp, who shuns attempts at rebellion to bury the body of his adopted son.

Romanian director Radu Muntean explores the psychological dilemma of being a crime witness in his film One Floor Below, while The High Sun from Croatian screenwriter and director Dalibor Matanić is a tale of forbidden love set in two neighbouring Balkan villages burdened by a long history of inter-ethnic hatred.

The 68th Cannes Film Festival will frun from 13-24 May.
