Polish and Russian architects win prizes for futuristic skyscraper designs

The design for a skyscraper featuring a jungle, desert, rivers and waterfalls has been awarded first prize for the annual eVolo Magazine 2015 Skyscraper Competition, it was announced last week. Polish architectural designers Ewa Odyjas, Agnieszka Morga, Konrad Basan and Jakub Pudo, collectively known as BOMP, won the award for their proposal Essence Skyscraper, a towering urban megastructure comprising 11 kinds of natural landscapes.

Serving as a temporary place of respite from urban life, the design was intended to bring natural landscapes closer to city life, offering city-dwellers a range of stimulating experiences.

“The main goal of this project is to position non-architectural phenomena in an urban fabric, an inspiration rooted in nature allowed to form a representation of external worlds in the shape of a vertical structure,” BOMP said. “Away from everyday routines, in a dense city centre, a secret garden that combines architecture and nature is born.”

Russian architect Egor Orlov was awarded third prize for his Cybertopia, a reimagined future city which, combining the digital and physical worlds, grows and adapts instantly in response to the changing needs of city inhabitants.
