The first Russian-language publication on contemporary curatorship was launched in St Petersburg last week. A pioneer in the field of curatorial handbooks, The Manifesta Journal Reader collects together texts exploring the theory and practice of contemporary curating, including the geopolitics and potential controversies of the curatorial process.

The book has been launched just days before the end of Manifesta 10 — the roving European art biennale which found a home in St Petersburg this year — and is a joint project between Manifesta, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences (Smolny College), St Petersburg State University, and the Calvert 22 Foundation. Co-edited by Viktor Misiano, chair of the Manifesta Foundation, the book is intended to be a permanent legacy for the role that Smolny College has played in nurturing future curators and writers. The Manifesta Journal Reader features work from a number of leading international curators, including Viktor Mazin, Mary Anne Staniszewski and Cuautemoc Medina. The reader is availiable for purchase here.
