Rendezvous with Russia, a three-day international film festival, has opened today in the North Caucasus region of Ingushetia, featuring around 50 films, documentaries and animated movies. Now in its fifth year, the festival hopes to boost tourism in the region, hosting roundtable discussions to debate the future of the local tourist industry.

The films will compete in one of five categories: Russian nature; Russian adventures; Chronicles of Russia; Best foreign film about travelling in Russia; and Best feature film about Russia. Additional events include masterclasses for film industry professionals from the region.

Plagued by militancy which has intensified in recent years, Ingushetia has a reputation for being one of the North Caucasus’ most violent regions, which has contributed to a marked decrease in tourism.
