Comme des Garçons launches Gosha Rubchinskiy exhibition in Berlin

4 November 2013

Japanese fashion label Comme des Garçons has launched an exhibition featuring photographs by Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy alongside his new autumn/winter 2013 menswear collection in its Berlin store. Rubchinskiy’s latest collection comprises streetwear inspired by the Russian avant-garde and club fashion in Nineties’ Moscow. Speaking to The Calvert Journal in June, he said: “The theme is revolution. It signifies the beginning of something new in art and in life.” It is the second time the Japanese label has promoted Rubchinskiy since teaming up with the young designer in 2012.

The photographs in the exhibition are from Rubchinksiy’s book Transfiguration, a thoughtful commentary on the gap between post-Soviet skating subculture in Moscow and St Petersburg and the more traditional elements of Russian society. In the images, Rubchinskiy skilfully juxtaposes images of skater boys with religious symbols. The exhibition will run until January 2014.
