New logo to be chosen for Russian army

The Russian army is to acquire a new emblem, which will appear on all military vehicles and equipment. Top-ranking generals and select members of the public have already chosen their favourites of the 13 emblems proposed. The decision will be made by the end of this month.

The competition will not be put to public vote, explained Minister of Defence Sergey Shoygu: “The internet is endless, we can’t wait for the results.”

The choice between different options is limited: all 13 feature the red, white and blue of the Russiam flag and a five-pointed star. Internet users have already remarked on the similarity of many of the designs to the star emblem of the US Army. The new logo will replace the current symbol, a golden two-headed eagle.
