Modern & Breitner Building

When the Art Nouveau movement spread throughout Europe, Hungary developed its own brand known as Szecesszió. Western Art Nouveau also infiltrated the Hungarian architectural landscape from the Belgian and French Art Nouveau schools and German Jugendstil. Architects Sámuel Révész and József Kollár are the most notable architects who brought Jugendstil to life in Budapest, with the Modern & Breitner Store in Deak Square being one of their flagship buildings. Dating from 1910-12, this unique corner building lies on Budapest’s Fashion Street, where the five-storey building now houses luxurious residences and studio apartments.
