Set in among the crumbling streets of the gritty outer VIII District, Aurora is not the kind of hub you expect to notice from the outside. Apart from the numerous bikes parked outside and the occasional young creative types standing by the gate smoking a cigarette, it simply looks like the façade to another apartment. Aurora is more than a bar, but also hosts art festivals to movie nights, and even refugee mixers where locals can meet people currently staying at the refugee camps on the border for a night. Similar countercultural hubs include Műszi, an alternative arts venue set on roof of a communist-era supermarket or Trafó, an avant-garde theatre space and forum for social issues housed in a post-industrial transformer building.
